Dash Display | I am selling my much loved car; unfortunately recent redundancy leaves me with no alternative, she is a great car to drive and offers exceptional performance…. | The car is in exceptional condition, before buying this car I went and viewed 7 supposedly immaculate TTs, this car was so well described that I travelled from Portsmouth to Wales to view it, I wasn’t disappointed and bought the car there and then. I bought it from a dealership on 23rd May 2011 and paid £8388.00 for it which included 6 months tax, I have the receipt and you are welcome to make any enquiries of the supplier to verify what I am saying. | As you can see from the pictures, in silver with a black hood and fantastic condition, she is beautiful as well as very very quick!! | She is also fitted with a TRACKER that needs only to be subscribed to. | I really don’t think that you will find a similar car of a similar age in better condition, every part of the paintwork is faultless with the exception of one tiny mark on the front drivers side wing, I’ve included a close-up of the wing although you’ll do well to actually spot the blemish, however, it is included for accuracy. | The car is booked in for an MOT next Wednesday and so will come with a full years MOT, she won’t fail on anything and I’ll happily take you to the testing station to verify this. | Please feel free to ask for a viewing, it would be welcomed and given my current employment situation, I can be very flexible and allow viewings at practically any time of day. I can be contacted on 02392 375202 or you can reach me via ebay to ask any questions. | I’m sure she’ll sell, I’ve started her at, what I think, amounts to a silly sum of money for a car of this quality and almost £4000.00 less than I paid for her almost a year ago. I’ll let you be the judge of what she’s actually worth….. | A little more about her………………………………………………….. | Sold on 29th April 2004 | 04th August 2005 18451 Long-life Service | 1st November 2006 37481 Long-life Service | 9th May 2007 37518 MOT | 30th January 2008 40987 £197.88 | 29th February 2008 41794 £503.49 | 2nd April 2008 42294 Long-life Service | 2nd April 2008 42294 £444.63 | 8th May 2008 42900 MOT | 21ST April 2009 47057 MOT | 21ST April 2009 47057 £69.15 | 22nd July 2009 48067 Long-life Service | 22nd July 2009 48067 £291.88 | 20th April 2010 51449 MOT | 27th January 2011 54575 Long-life Service | 28th January 2011 54575 £314.58 | 6th May 2011 54934 MOT | 23rd May 2012 65025 MOT | 29TH June 2011 new mechatronics unit fitted under warranty by Portsmouth Audi with a 2 year guarantee | I also bought an Audi convertible top cover at a cost of £561.16; this is included in the sale | The car is fitted with a TRACKER device | The car has a 3.2 litre 250bhp 6 cylinder engine | TRACKER fitted | Direct shift gearbox automatic transmission with F1 style steering wheel controls with both Drive and Sport modes | Quattro – Permanent all-wheel drive system. | Anti-lock brakes system (ABS) | Electronic differential lock (EDL) | Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) | Electronic stabilisation programme (ESP) - Which can be turned off……… | Tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel | Retractable high pressure headlight washers integrated into front bumper | Heated wind shield washer nozzles | Power folding top with heated glass rear window | Power retractable wind deflector | Fixed rear spoiler | Xenon high intensity headlights with automatic self-levelling | Automatic climate control with sun sensor and pollen filter | Power windows with one touch operation | Power assisted steering | Electric heated and adjustable door mirrors | Boot release in centre console | Fuel filler release in centre console | Electronic cruise control with coast, resume and shut off feature | Audi floor mats | Nappa leather seat upholstery including door panel inserts | Audi cup holders on centre console | Anti-theft vehicle alarm system with blinking theft deterrent lights on doors | Concert radio with in dash CD player | Driver information display with outside temperature display | OPTIONS IN ADDITION THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS | Bose premium sound system with four speakers in doors, 2 two way rear speakers, centre speaker in dashboard, subwoofer between the seats, 225 watt amplifier and Bose Audio Pilot Technology | 6 Disc CD changer (Located in storage compartment next to left seat) | Heated front seats with individual temperature control | Hands free digital portable telephone, connect to any Bluetooth phone | Audi fitted phone cradle | Audi Satellite navigation system | 18 inch 7-spoke cast alloy wheels with 225/40/18 tyres with security wheel locks | Documentation | I have all of the documentation mentioned above, contained within the original Audi wallet, also there is the full service history, Audi navigation system operating instructions and disk and the Audi concert sound system operating instructions. | I have two remote control key fobs and the original Audi plastic emergency key | The boring but necessary bit | A £100 non-refundable deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction ending; this should be paid via PayPal. Class Compact/sports car Body style(s) 2-door Coupé, 2-door Roadster Layout Transverse front engine, front-wheel drive or quattro on-demand four-wheel drive Platform Volkswagen Group A platform series Designer Peter Schreyer The Audi TT is a two-door sports car manufactured by Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. in Győr, Hungary, since 1998, for the German automaker and Volkswagen Group subsidiary AUDI AG. The Audi TT is now in its second generation — and both generations have been available in two car body styles; as a 2+2 Coupé, or two-seater Roadster. They have been built on consecutive generations of the Volkswagen Group A platform, starting with the A4 (PQ34). As a result of this platform-sharing, the Audi TT has identical powertrain and suspension layouts as its related platform-mates; this includes a front-mounted transversely oriented engine, front-wheel drive or quattro permanent four-wheel drive system, and fully independent front suspension using MacPherson struts. A previously unused laser beam welding adaptation, which enabled seamless design features on the first-generation TT, delayed its introduction. Audi did not initially offer any type of automatic transmission option for the TT. However, from 2003, a dual clutch six-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) became available, with the United Kingdom TT variants becoming the world's first user of a dual clutch transmission configured for a right-hand drive vehicle, although the outright world first for a road car equipped with a dual clutch transmission was claimed earlier by a Volkswagen Group platform-mate, the left hand drive Volkswagen Golf Mk4 R32.[6][7] [edit] Name The Audi TT takes its name from the successful motor racing tradition of NSU in the British Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race. NSU began competing in the TT in 1911, and later merged into the company now known as Audi.[8] The Audi TT also follows the NSU 1000TT, 1200TT and TTS cars of the 1960s in taking their names from the race. The TT name has also been attributed to the phrase "Technology & Tradition".[9] [edit] TT Mk1 (Typ 8N, 1998-2006) Audi TT (8N) Production October 1998–June 2006 Platform Volkswagen Group A4 (PQ34) Engine(s) 1.8 L I4 20v Turbo, 3.2 L VR6 Transmission(s) 5-speed manual (all models 180 PS), 6-speed manual (all models 225 PS), 6-speed DSG Wheelbase 2,422 mm (95.4 in) quattro: 2,428 mm (95.6 in) Length 4,041 mm (159.1 in) Width 1,764 mm (69.4 in) Height 1,346 mm (53.0 in) Related Audi A3 Mk1 Volkswagen Golf Mk4 Volkswagen New Beetle Volkswagen Bora/Jetta Mk4 SEAT León Mk1 SEAT Toledo Mk2 Škoda Octavia Mk1 This section needs additional citations for verification. (May 2009) The production model (internal designation Typ 8N) was launched as a Coupé in September 1998, followed by a Roadster in August 1999. It is based on the Volkswagen Group A4 (PQ34) platform as used for the Volkswagen Golf Mk4, the original Audi A3, the Škoda Octavia, and others. The styling differed little from the concept, except for slightly reprofiled bumpers, and the addition of a rear quarterlight windows behind the doors. Factory production commenced October 1998. Early TT models gained press coverage for a series of high-speed accidents in Europe. Reported crashes and related fatalities occurred at speeds in excess of 180 kilometres per hour (110 mph), during abrupt lane changes or sharp turns. Both the Coupé and Roadster models were recalled in late 1999/early 2000, to improve predictability of the car's handling at very high-speeds. Audi's Electronic Stability Programme, and rear spoiler were added, along with suspension modifications. All changes were subsequently incorporated into future series production versions of the car. Factory production of this generation ended in June 2006. [edit] 8N powertrain Audi TT Roadster (US model) Mechanically, the TT shares an identical powertrain layout as its related Volkswagen Group platform-mates. The TT uses a transversely mounted internal combustion engine, with either front-wheel drive, or 'quattro' on-demand four-wheel drive. It was first available with a 1.8 litre inline four cylinder 20-valve turbocharged engine in two states of DIN-rated power outputs; 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) and 225 PS (165 kW; 222 hp). The engines share the same fundamental design, but the 225 PS version features a larger K04 turbocharger, an additional intercooler on the right side (complementing the existing left-side intercooler), forged connecting rods, a dual tailpipe exhaust, and a few other internals - designed to accommodate the increase in turbo boost, from roughly 10 pounds per square inch (0.7 bar) peak, to 15 pounds per square inch (1.0 bar). Haldex Traction enabled four wheel drive, 'branded' as "quattro" was optional on the 180 engine, and standard on the more powerful 225 version. The original four cylinder engine range was complemented with a 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp) 3.2 litre VR6 engine in early 2003, which comes as standard with the quattro four-wheel drive system. In July 2003, a new six-speed dual clutch transmission - dubbed the Direct-Shift Gearbox, which improves acceleration through much-reduced shift times, was offered, along with a stiffer suspension. [edit] TT quattro Sport In 2005, Audi released the Coupé-only limited edition (800 sold in the UK, not the 1000 originally planned) Audi TT quattro Sport[10] (known as the Audi TT Club Sport in Europe). Built by AUDI AG high performance specialist subsidiary quattro GmbH, it had increased power from its 1.8 litre turbocharged engine - rising to 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) and 320 newton metres (236 ft·lbf) of torque - and a reduction in weight of 75 kilograms (165 lb) to 1,390 kilograms (3,064 lb),[10] which allowed for a 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (0 to 62.1 mph) time of 5.9 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155.3 mph).[10] This weight loss was achieved by deleting the spare wheel, rear parcel shelf and rear seats, and the standard fitment air conditioning.[10] Lightweight fixed-back Recaro bucket seats graced the interior.[10] Distinguishable from other TT Coupés by its two-tone paint scheme (Phantom Black pearl painted roof, pillars and mirror housings, in combination with either Avus Silver, Phantom Black, Mauritius Blue or Misano Red body colour)[10] and unique 18" 15-spoke cast aluminium alloy wheels, plus the same body kit as fitted to the TT 3.2 V6, the TT quattro Sport also featured black exhaust tailpipes and uprated suspension settings and new wheels, ½" wider at the rear for improved handling. The brochure stated V6-spec brakes were to be fitted, however models delivered in the UK came with the standard 225 spec brake callipers which were red-painted. On 22 June 2007, Pearson, Simon, Soter, Warshaw & Penny, LLP and the Law Office of Robert L. Starr filed a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen Group of America, alleging that the timing belts for model year 1999-2003 Audi and Volkswagen vehicles equipped with a 1.8 litre turbocharged engine fail prematurely.[11] The vehicles included are the Audi TT, Audi A4 and Volkswagen Passat. The complaint alleges that the timing belts fail prior to the service interval, as stated in the owner's manual. The parties have reached a class-wide settlement, and preliminary approval of the settlement was granted by the court on 19 May 2008. Claim forms, class notice, and other documentation will be mailed on or about 1 August 2008. Details regarding the terms of the settlement will be in the notice sent to owners of the class vehicles.[12] On 22 May 2008, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, entered an order preliminarily approving a nationwide settlement of a class action lawsuit brought by Green Welling LLP, on behalf of all current and prior owners and lessees of 2000-2004, and 2005 model year Audi TTs. The lawsuit and settlement relate to allegedly defective instrument clusters, and Audi TT owners are entitled to submit claims for repairs, replacement and/or cash reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses, and all TT owners covered by the suit will receive a two year extension of their existing four year warranty (limited to the instrument cluster).[13] There have been widespread reports of similar problems with instrument clusters on the second generation (8P/8PA) A3 model although Audi have yet to publicly acknowledge the defect.[citation needed] [edit] 8N awards The examples and perspective in this section deal primarily with the United States and do not represent a worldwide view of the subject. Please improve this article and discuss the issue on the talk page. (September 2010) The original generation Audi TT was nominated for the North American Car of the Year award for 2000. It was also on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 2000 and 2001. This concept was an insight into the new TT, but featured angular styling, and a "shooting brake" two-door hatchback body style.[14] Audi revealed the second-generation TT, internal designation Typ 8J, on 6 April 2006. It is constructed on the Volkswagen Group A5 (PQ35) platform, and uses aluminium in the front bodypanels, and steel in the rear, to enhance its near-neutral front-to-rear weight distribution. It is available in front-wheel drive or 'quattro' four-wheel drive layout, and is again offered as a 2+2 Coupé, and as a two-seater Roadster. Compared to the previous generation, this new variant is five inches longer and three inches wider than its predecessor.[15] Factory production commenced during August 2006.[16] [edit] 8J powertrain The powertrain options initially only included petrol engines, which consist of either one of two inline four cylinder engines - the all-new 1.8 litre EA888 Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection (TFSI) (available initially only in Germany, later elsewhere from mid 2009),[17] or the more common and established EA113-variant 2.0 litre TFSI. The Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) technology was derived from the Audi Le Mans endurance race cars, and offers improved fuel efficiency as well as an increased power output and cleaner emissions. The 3.2 litre 'V6' badged VR6 engine is carried over from the previous generation, and this engine was also available in the Canadian model.[18] 2.0 TFSI quattro models, with the latest EA888 engine, became available in 2009 model year.[19] A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with the six-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (now called S-TRONIC on all Audi models) as an option for all but 1.8 litre engine. quattro on-demand four-wheel drive, again using the Haldex Traction clutch is available - standard on V6 models, but was not available on 1.8 TFSI. [edit] 8J suspension and other features Like all its PQ35 platform-mates, the new 8J TT now has a multi-link fully independent rear suspension to complement the front independent suspension. The entire suspension system can be enhanced with Audi's new active suspension, "Audi Magnetic Ride", available as an option. This is based on Delphi's MagneRide, which uses magneto rheological dampers (this means that an electronic control unit for the suspension will automatically adjust its damping properties depending on the current road conditions and driving manner). The new TT also features an revised rear spoiler; which automatically extends at speeds greater than 120 kilometres per hour (75 mph), and retracts again below 80 kilometres per hour (50 mph). The spoiler can also be manually controlled by the driver via a switch on the dash.[15] [edit] 2.0 TDI quattro Launched at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show,[20] Audi offered the first diesel engined version of Audi TT in the European market, the Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro.[20][21][22] As its name indicates, it is only available with quattro, and is also available in Coupé and Roadster versions.[21] Power comes from the new 2.0 litre Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) engine, now with 16 valves, double overhead camshaft (DOHC), 1,800-bar (26,110 psi) common rail fuel delivery and eight-hole piezo fuel injectors,[20][21] which produces a DIN-rated output of 125 kilowatts (170 PS; 168 bhp) at 4,200 revolutions per minute (rpm) and torque of 350 newton metres (258 ft·lbf) at 1,750 to 2,500 rpm.[20][21] It includes a six-speed manual transmission.[21] Acceleration from standstill to 100 kilometres per hour (62.1 mph) on the Coupé is reached in 7.5 seconds, and will go on to reach a top speed of 226 kilometres per hour (140.4 mph).[21] The slightly less aerodynamically efficient Roadster reaches 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 223 kilometres per hour (138.6 mph).[21] Audi claim average fuel consumption for the Coupé variant with this 2.0 TDI engine is 5.3 litres per 100 kilometres (53.3 mpg-imp; 44.4 mpg-US), which achieves a CO2 emissions rating of 139 gram/km.[21][22] The Roadster TDI achieves an average 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres (51.4 mpg-imp; 42.8 mpg-US) and CO2 of 144 gram/km.[21] [edit] TTS quattro At the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Audi released the first Audi "S" model of the TT range - the Audi TTS quattro,[23] with a heavily revised 2.0 TFSI engine.[23] The cylinder block, cylinder head and the fuel injectors have all been modified from the base 2.0 TFSI engine (ID: CDL). Together with other modifications, this engine produces a DIN-rated motive power output of 200 kilowatts (272 PS; 268 bhp),[23] and generates a torque turning force of 350 newton metres (258 ft·lbf) from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm.[23][24] It is available with a choice of either a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission,[23] or a six-speed 'S tronic' transmission.[23] In the United States, the S tronic gearbox will be the only available transmission. Like all Audi "S" models, it is only available with quattro four-wheel drive as standard. The suspension is lowered by 10 millimetres (0.4 in) over the standard models, and includes "Audi Magnetic Ride" as standard[23][25] and a new two-stage sports-biased Electronic Stability Programme (ESP).[26] Radially ventilated front disc brakes are clamped by a single-piston gloss black caliper emblazened with a bold TTS logo, and a lap timer is prominent in the centre of the instrument cluster.[27] 9Jx18" '5-parallel-spoke' design alloy roadwheels are standard,[23] with 245/40 ZR18 high performance tyres. 19" '5-spoke star' wheels and tyres are optional.[23][28] The exterior has some changes over the standard model - with a TTS body styling: with redesigned front, with larger air intakes, redesigned rear bumper, side sill extensions, and four exhaust tailpipes.[23] Official performance figures for the sprint from standstill to 100 kilometres per hour (62.1 mph) for the TTS Coupé can be reached in 5.4 seconds, with the Roadster two-tenths slower at 5.6 seconds.[23] Top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometres per hour (155 mph).[23] Audi UK offered eight TTS cars for official use by the race organisers at the 2008 Isle of Man TT motorcycle races.[8][29] The car went on sale in the USA at November 2008.[30] [edit] TT Clubsport quattro concept Audi displayed a new show car variant of the second generation Audi TT - the Audi TT Clubsport quattro, at the 2008 Wörthersee Tour at Pörtschach am Wörthersee in Austria.[31] Shown only in an open-topped 'speedster' variant, its 2.0 TFSI engine has been tuned to give 221 kilowatts (300 PS; 296 bhp).[31] The soft-top on the standard TT Roadster has been deleted, and replaced with two 'humps', along with two substantial roll bars.[31] LED daytime running lamps, an aggressive body kit with large frontal air intakes, black-painted 'single frame grille' and a lower spoiler lip complete the new look from the front.[31] The axle track has been widened by 66 millimetres (2.6 in), with bolder and wider wheel arch extensions, polished 19-inch alloys, wider side sills and 255-section tyres are the highlight of the side profile.[31] At the rear, twin polished stainless steel oval tail pipes exit aside a new rear diffuser.[31] Racing bucket seats, along with lightweight aluminium detail complete the interior look,[31] and a six-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission with quattro four-wheel drive and TTS spec brakes (340 millimetres (13.4 in) up front, and 310 millimetres (12.2 in) at the rear) complete the mechanicals.[31] Whilst the TT Clubsport quattro is primarily a 'show car', Audi has not ruled out the possibility of small-scale production.[31] [edit] TT RS With its world debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show,[32][33] and developed by Audi's high performance subsidiary quattro GmbH at Neckarsulm,[34] Audi released the first ever compact sports car Audi "RS" model - the Audi TT RS, which was available from 2009 in Coupé and Roadster variants. This new TT RS harks back to the sporting legacy of 1980s Audi Quattros - with their high performance five-cylinder turbocharged engines,[33] the TT RS will include an all-new 2.5 litre inline five-cylinder Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection (TFSI) petrol engine. This new 183 kilograms (403 lb) engine produces a DIN-rated motive power output of 250 kilowatts (340 PS; 335 bhp) from 5,400 to 6,700 rpm, and torque of 450 newton metres (332 ft·lbf) at 1,600-5,300 rpm.[33][35] Historically, after the original Audi "RS" model - the Audi RS2 Avant, all Audi "RS" models have their assembly carried out at the quattro GmbH factory in Neckarsulm, Germany. The TT RS will be the first Audi RS vehicle that will not have any of its assembly performed in Neckarsulm, and will be completely assembled in the Audi factory in Győr, Hungary,[16] alongside its' 'lesser' Audi TT brethren. The TT RS has a new short-shift close-ratio six-speed manual transmission,[33] and like all "RS" models, is only available with Audi's 'trademark' quattro four-wheel drive system, with the TT RS using a specially adapted version of the latest generation multi-plate clutch from Haldex Traction.[33][36] Additions to the quattro system include a constant velocity joint before the cardan propeller shaft, and a compact rear-axle differential – uprated to cope with the increased torque from the five cylinder turbo engine. Like the TTS, the TT RS has a 10 millimetres (0.4 in) lower ride height,[33] optional "Audi Magnetic Ride",[33] and rides on standard 18 inch roadwheels with 245/45 ZR18 tyres (optional 19" or 20" wheels are also available).[33] The brakes are uprated to include two-piece cross-drilled and radially vented front discs, sized at 370 millimetres (14.6 in) in diameter.[33] The front discs are clamped by gloss black painted four-piston calipers, adorned with the RS logo.[33] Rear ventilated discs are sized at 310 millimetres (12.2 in) in diameter.[33] It includes a fixed rear spoiler (retractable optional),[33] and has black interior with heated Alcantara/leather sports seats (Silk Nappa, Fine Nappa leather optional). The Recaro "RS bucket" seats, first seen in the Audi B7 RS4 are also available as an option. Also carried over from the B7 RS4 is the 'Sport' button, which sharpens the throttle response and deepens the exhaust note, and a three-stage user-selectable Electronic Stability Programme (ESP).[33] Official performance figures indicate the TT RS Coupé will accelerate from standstill to 100 kilometres per hour (62.1 mph) in 4.6 seconds (4.7 seconds for the Roadster), with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155.3 mph).[33] There is a factory option to de-restrict the top speed to 280 kilometres per hour (174.0 mph).[33] The Coupé has a kerb weight of 1,450 kilograms (3,197 lb),[33] and the Roadster weighs in at 1,510 kilograms (3,329 lb). As of 2010 the TT-RS is available with the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission capable of handling the torque delivered by the engine. The 6-speed gearbox used in the TT-S cannot cope with 450 newton metres (332 ft·lbf) which is why the TT-RS initially was offered only with a manual transmission. The car went on sale in March 2009, with delivery beginning in summer.[37] In 2010, the TT-RS was confirmed for the US market. The decision was influenced by an internet petition to bring the TT-RS stateside, which succeeded with over 11,000 signatures. The TT-RS is expected to arrive in Q3 2011.[38] [edit] 8J engines The 8J powertrain options comprise of the following internal combustion engines and drivelines:[39][40] model engine displacement engine configuration, (ID codes) aspiration, fuel system DIN-rated max. motive power at rpm (Directive 80/1269/EEC) max. torque at rpm years drivetrain petrol engines 1.8 TFSI [17] 1,798 cc (109.7 cu in) Inline-4 16v DOHC (EA888) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection 118 kW (160 PS; 158 bhp) @ 4,500-6,200 250 N·m (184 ft·lbf) @ 1,500-4,500 2007– FWD 2.0 TFSI 1,984 cc (121.1 cu in) Inline-4 16v DOHC (AXX, BWA, BPY) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection 147 kW (200 PS; 197 bhp) @ 5,100-6,000 280 N·m (207 ft·lbf) @ 1,800-5,000 2006– FWD, quattro 4WD 2.0 TFSI 1,984 cc (121.1 cu in) Inline-4 16v DOHC (EA888) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection 155 kW (211 PS; 208 bhp) @ 5,300-6,000 280 N·m (207 ft·lbf) @ 1,700-5,000 2008– FWD, quattro 4WD 2.0 TFSI 1,984 cc (121.1 cu in) Inline-4 16v DOHC Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection 155 kW (211 PS; 208 bhp) @ 4,300-6,000 350 N·m (258 ft·lbf) @ 1,600-4,200 2010– FWD, quattro 4WD 3.2 V6 quattro 3,189 cc (194.6 cu in) VR6 24v DOHC (BUB) multi-point sequential indirect fuel injection 184 kW (250 PS; 247 bhp) @ 6,300 320 N·m (236 ft·lbf) @ 2,500-3,000 2006– quattro 4WD 2.0 TFSI (TTS quattro) 1,984 cc (121.1 cu in) Inline-4 16v DOHC (EA113: CDL) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection 200 kW (272 PS; 268 bhp) @ 6,000 350 N·m (258 ft·lbf) @ 2,500-5,000 2008– quattro 4WD 2.5 R5 TFSI (TT RS) 2,480 cc (151.3 cu in) Inline-5 20v DOHC (CEPA) Turbocharger, Fuel Stratified Injection 250 kW (340 PS; 335 bhp) @ 5,400-6,500 450 N·m (332 ft·lbf) @ 1,600-5,300 2009– quattro 4WD diesel engines 2.0 TDI quattro [20][21] 1,968 cc (120.1 cu in) Inline-4 16v DOHC Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) CR 125 kW (170 PS; 168 bhp) @ 4,200 350 N·m (258 ft·lbf) @ 1,750-2,500 2008– quattro 4WD Audi was reported to stop offering 3.2 litre V6 (VR6) models in North America from 2010 model year.[41] [edit] 8J awards The second generation TT has been honoured with many awards, including the inaugural Drive Car of the Year, Top Gear Coupé of the Year 2006, Fifth Gear Car of the Year 2006, Autobild Most Beautiful Car, and World Design Car of the Year 2007, as well as being a finalist for World Car of the Year. The weight of the engine and other assemblies rests on the front axle and thus increases traction to the driving wheels. If they start to lose traction, the front-wheel drive vehicle understeers and tends to continue straight ahead although the front wheels are turned. This is a relatively mild effect that the driver can normally control by simply lifting their foot off the accelerator. Traction aids such as ASR and EDL are fitted as standard on all Audi front-wheel drive vehicles. Additionally the ESP Electronic Stability Programme greatly enhances what is already a high level of safety. Rear wheel drive The vehicle is pushed along by the driven rear wheels. As an initial situation, this is fundamentally less stable than with front- or all-wheel drive. If the driven wheels spin, the rear-wheel drive vehicle tends to oversteer and its tail may then slide sideways. To guard against this situation arising, which the driver may find fairly difficult to control, the corrective action of traction aid systems and electronic stability programmes takes effect quite early. The vehicle can be kept moving safely, but traction is reduced by the need to apply the brakes at individual wheels, so that driving the vehicle becomes less pleasant. quattro permanent all-wheel drive Permanent all-wheel drive offers an unusually high level of active safety. In terms of tractive force, acceleration and hill-climbing ability on a poor surface it is unbeatable. By distributing the power input from the engine between two axles, higher lateral locating forces can be absorbed when cornering. This enhances lateral acceleration and at the same time ensures the highest possible level of safety. Raising the benchmark To transmit their full potential onto the road, sporty vehicles like the Audi RS 6 and Audi R8 need a driveline to match. And the latest, enhanced version of quattro, featuring asymmetric/dynamic distribution of torque for the first time in an Audi, has set new standards in handling, agility and steering precision. Asymmetric/dynamic torque distribution, with a rear-biased split, allows the exceptional driving forces produced by powerful engines to reach the road even more efficiently. It reacts to conditions on the road more responsively. And with more agility on tight bends, it delivers a more exhilarating performance than ever. Once again, quattro raises the benchmark in high-performance engineering. Better traction with quattro Example 1: Ideal driving conditions If more traction is required – when towing a trailer, for example – quattro offers real advantages by offering greater tractive force in proportion to the vehicle’s weight. Example 2: Only 50 percent grip In conditions where tyres experience reduced grip – as on a wet road – the advantages of quattro immediately become apparent. Whenever one wheel loses traction the others can compensate, so the car remains stable and continues to grip the road. Example 3: Only the front wheels have grip quattro continually adjusts to road conditions to permanently distribute power between the front and rear wheels precisely where and when required. It means the vehicle stays responsive even if only one axle has enough grip. By contrast, if front- or rear-wheel drive vehicles lose grip at the driven axle, they can no longer transmit the engine’s power onto the road. The self locking centre differential The self locking centre differential sits at the heart of quattro on models with the engine positioned lengthwise along the car’s centreline, such as the Audi A4, A6, A8, Q5 and Q7. Operating entirely mechanically, it continually reacts to road conditions and responds to any differences in the rotational speeds between the wheels. This ensures more power is always transmitted to the wheels with a better grip. In addition, the Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) can act when needed to prevent the wheels from spinning. Excess power at one wheel is diverted to the other wheels that have more grip, maintaining traction in virtually every situation. quattro for cars with transverse engines To ensure the optimal distribution of engine power for each model, Audi uses specially configured all-wheel drive systems that vary in design. The Haldex clutch is an electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch. It performs the function of the Torsen centre differential in cars with transverse engines, such as the Audi A3, A3 Sportback and Audi TT. It ensures that engine power is permanently distributed between the front and rear wheels as and when required. The Haldex clutch works by reacting to differences in the rotating speed between the front and rear wheels. This causes variations in the system’s hydraulic pressure, which in turn compress the clutch plates together to balance the distribution of power between the front and rear wheels. So if the front wheels begin to lose traction, the Haldex clutch channels power to the rear. And the greater the difference in rotational speed, the higher the pressure applied to the plates – which means that more engine power can be transmitted to the rear wheel. "Is there really any point in paying the extra for the quattro system?" What is it? The all-wheel drive version of our favourite TT – the 200hp turbo petrol. It costs 29,095 which means it’s £2,850 more than the front-wheel drive model. However, it does come with Audi’s excellent S tronic paddle shift gearbox as standard. What’s it like on the outside Like the normal 2.0-litre model, which means it’s one of the sweetest looking cars on the road. The only noticeable difference is a small quattro badge on the rear. What’s it like on the inside Once again it’s like a TT, which means a stylish well-built cabin. However, all cars have paddle shifters on their steering wheels as S tronic is standard on the Quattro model. What’s it like to drive? Well, the extra traction means the quattro is slightly faster to 60mph. Also the extra grip proved useful when driving in the recent snowy whether. However, other than this there is really little difference to the front-wheel drive car, as the quattro system only sends power to the rear when there is a loss of traction rather than providing permanent all-wheel drive. Verdict Really, unless you regularly engage in away-from-the lights drag races or live in the Artic there is very little point paying the extra £2,850 for the quattro. And while it may come with the excellent S tronic gearbox as standard, if you like the system you can have it fitted to the normal 2.0 TFSI for £1,450. Auto Express Car Reviews With plenty of Audi TT coupes flying around you can afford to be picky By Richard DredgeJune 2005 When it debuted in 1999, the Audi TT's concept car looks made it the motor to be seen in. Six years of familiarity have lessened the impact of that amazing bodywork, but its enduring popularity means it is still in big demand - and there are plenty around, which is great news if you are after a used model. Values have started to drop, so now is the time to buy yourself a real design classic.Early stability scares led to a worldwide recall of the car, but the TT's image has remained rock-solid and there's more choice than ever. Audi has expanded the original range to include a budget 150bhp front-wheel-drive model and a storming 3.2-litre V6. Prices Roadsters are worth more than their Coupe equivalents and, as you would expect, the more powerful the car, the higher its value. You can now buy an early imported left-hand-drive TT 180 Coupe for less than ΂£9,000; the equivalent UK machine will fetch ΂£11,000.A 52-registered TT 225 Coupe with 28,000 miles on the clock costs around ΂£19,500 from a dealer; deduct ΂£1,500 for a TT 180 Coupe, while Roadsters command a ΂£500 premium. The 3.2 V6 Coupe starts at ΂£21,000 for an 03-plate in a private sale - add another ΂£1,000 for the Roadster. What to look for It is vitally important to check that any TT you are considering has been recalled for suspension modifications, plus the fitment of an ESP system and a rear spoiler. Also, the timing belt, tensioner and water pump need replacing at 60,000 miles - not the 80,000 Audi specifies. This is a ΂£500 job.Timing belts on 1.8-litre engines have been known to snap between 65,000-80,000 miles, and the extensive damage this causes is sometimes not repairable. Standard 17-inch Avus alloys cost ΂£270 to replace - optional 18-inch rims can be up to ΂£500 a piece. Checklist Drive on right: don't be afraid to buy a left-hand-drive car if cash is tight, but it'll always be worth less than a right-drive example. There are plenty of imported right-hookers around, yet UK dealers should be able to service them - check with your garage first. Engine: some people get carried away with ECU chips. If a car you're considering has been upgraded, you must know. Reliability will be suspect if the 1.8T engine has been pumped up to 300bhp or more. Economy could also suffer. Convertibles: new Roadster hoods cost ΂£1,000 for the outer fabric alone. If the whole unit needs replacing, expect to fork out ΂£5,000, so it pays to check very closely. Make sure the top goes up and down smoothly, and look for signs of water leaks inside. Storage: coupes provide more luggage space than the Roadster, and there are rear seats, too - although these are tiny. No matter what the roof is made of, all TTs should have a rear spoiler - part of the safety recall carried out in 2000. Cabin: check every electrical item, from lights to the stereo - especially on early examples. Glitches are common and hard to cure, so ensure you discover any problems before you hand over your cash. Cabin otherwise well built and stylish. Recalls Apr 2000: Instability and loss of directional control could occur (Sep 1998-Dec 1999 cars). Nov 2001: Rear axle ball joints may seize (Feb 1997-Feb 2000 cars). Oct 2002: Airbag may not deploy (all examples with the three-spoke sports steering wheel). Owner comment Gavin Whalley, of Green Street Green, Kent, is completely smitten with his TT 1.8T, thanks to its concept car looks. He said: "It's great to drive and has a superbly built cabin, but the dealer's attitude leaves a lot to be desired."Staff think they're doing you a favour selling you a ΂£32,000 car, and at service time they're really unhelpful. The best thing any owner can do is join the TT Forum (www.tt-forum.co.uk) - it's amazingly useful." Thanks to their popularity, there are also plenty of second-hand Coupes to choose from, so you can afford to be picky. There's an all-new model due next year, but don't expect used prices for the current car to nosedive as a result, because demand remains strong.
